The Mendocino coast is a great place to be for many reasons, however when you come to the coast your trip will never be complete without a fun trip to the beach with you friends and family. There are many beaches to choose from so while your here, be adventurous and try at least one of the if not all. Surfs up so head to the beach and chill in the sand and enjoy the view!

MacKerricher State Park - Fort Bragg

MacKerricher State Park offers a variety of habitats; beach, bluff, headland, dune, forest and wetland. Tide pools are along the shore. Seals may be seen on the rocks off the park`s coastline. More than 90 species of birds visit or live near Cleone Lake, a former tidal lagoon. During winter and spring, the nearby headland provides a good lookout for whale watching. The park is popular with hikers, joggers, equestrians and bicyclists. The park has a wheelchair accessible nature trail.

Pudding Creek Beach is below an old wooden train trestle that now is a multi-use recreational trail bridge in MacKerricher State Park. Pudding Creek flows down onto the beach sometimes crossing the sand and at other times just pooling up behind it. The beach is in a deep sandy cove at the creek mouth and has high rock walls all around it. Footpaths meander all over the bluff around this beach leading to many places to take pictures from.

Jughandle State Natural Reserve and beach

On the rugged Mendocino Coast, Jug Handle State Natural Reserve beckons visitors with spectacular ocean views, peaceful forests, and a hike through half a million years of ecological history. The reserves 2.5-mile Ecological Staircase Trail explores three wave-cut terraces formed by the continental glaciers, rising seas, and tectonic plates that built the Coast Range. Few places on earth display a more complete record of how geology, soils, and plants change over time. Bisected by Highway One, the reserve lies halfway between the towns of Fort Bragg and Mendocino. It stretches from the Pacific Ocean into Jackson Demonstration State Forest, three miles inland, where the highest steps of the ecological staircase lie. This park is 5 miles south of Fort Bragg.

Big River beach State Park

Big River beach State Park

There are beaches all up and down the Mendocino coast, but none is as iconic as Big River Beach. Located down the cliffs from the village of Mendocino, Big River is a sprawling sandy beach perfect for a little seaside fun, sunbathing, or splashing in the water. Although it is the most popular of the beaches on the coast, it is still far from crowded. Depending on the day, you may find yourself alone on this expansive beach or possibly with one or two other couples walking the strand.
